Truly the past 99 years, since Fatima, have been the years of the Rosary. Our Lady came to the children at Fatima as Our Lady of the Rosary. She called for the prayer of the Rosary in order to stop the terrible evils that were poised to take over the whole world. Our Lady wanted the Rosary to be the weapon that would stop the enemy and all his evil plans. It would seem that the response to Our Lady was weak, at best. The following years have been filled with unspeakable horrors. But God does not give up. And so He has sent Our Lady to Medjugorje to help us to respond to the call to pray for peace, for a change in the world. In Medjugorje, the Rosary is prayed. There is an hour dedicated to the prayer of the Rosary before the International Mass in the evening. And another half hour of the Rosary afterwards on most nights. There is a way of the Rosary that ascends and descends Apparition Hill, so that pilgrims can climb and pray at least 15 decades with Our Lady on her Hill. The Mysteries of Light are presented behind the church, for pilgrims to pray as well. The Rosary is prayed by the Parish up Apparition Hill every Sunday, and between the Stations of the Cross up Cross Mountain every Friday. In between pilgrims pray constantly on the hills, and around the church. The whole village is filled with the Rosary!! Our Lady has called on us to pray the Rosary as spiritual warfare. She told us: August 8, 1985 “Dear children! Today I call you especially now to advance against satan by means of prayer. Satan wants to work still more now that you know he is at work. Dear children, put on the armor for battle and with the Rosary in your hand defeat him! Thank you for having responded to my call.” I believe that the armor for battle can be obtained by living the main messages of Our Lady in Medjugorje: prayer, fasting, confession, Holy Mass, the Bible and conversion. With these practices built into our lives, we are protected from the enemy, and then when we pray the Rosary, we are on the offense. We come against our adversary with the power of Christ’s love, represented in the mysteries. This constant prayer in which the life of Christ is held up for all to adore, the enemy is driven back, banished by the light of Christ in our meditation. He flees. The Feast of the Rosary was instituted to remember the victory at Lepanto, when the Ottoman fleets were destroyed, due to the bravery of the Austrian navy, and the prayer of the Holy Rosary by the people of Europe. Today we have a similar battle. We are being asked by Our Lady to take up our Rosaries and defeat the enemy of our souls. She is with us to help us.
