The Gift of Wisdom!

(c)Mateo Ivankovic 2017   November 16, 2017 St. Margaret of Scotland St. Gertrude   Dear Family of Mary! May 25, 2001 “Dear children! At this time of grace, I call you to prayer. Little children, you work much but without God’s blessing. Bless and seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to lead you at this time so that you may comprehend and live in the grace of this time. Convert, little children, and kneel in the silence of your hearts. Put God in the center of your being so that, in that way, you can witness in joy the beauty that God continually gives in your life. Thank you for having responded to my call.” In this beautiful message Our Lady asks us to “seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to lead you…” Wisdom is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Wisdom is given to us through the Holy Spirit as a sort of infused knowledge, the ability to understand the Christian life with a deeper heavenly light. As Our Lady continues to say, “seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to lead you at this time so that you may comprehend and live in the grace of this time.” Wisdom helps us understand what God is doing, and shows us how to follow His grace, to live in the grace of this time. The first reading for Mass today is one of my favorite Scriptures, Wisdom 7:22b-8:1. It is a long list of words and phrases that describe Wisdom, and each one is sublime!! I think if we really took in these descriptions of Wisdom, we would have much better discernment about our life, and what God is doing. We would be able to pick up the clues in our situations and find the way in which Wisdom leads us. For in Wisdom there is a spirit that is intelligent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, mobile, clear, unpolluted, distinct, invulnerable, loving the good, keen, irresistible, beneficent, humane, steadfast, sure, free from anxiety, all-powerful, overseeing all, and penetrating through all spirits that are intelligent and pure and most subtle. For wisdom is more mobile than any motion; because of her pureness she pervades and penetrates all things. For she is a breath of the power of God, and a pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty; therefore, nothing defiled gains entrance into her. For she is a reflection of eternal light, a spotless mirror of the working of God, and an image of his goodness. Though she is but one, she can do all things, and while remaining in herself, she renews all things; in every generation she passes into holy souls and makes them friends of God, and prophets; for God loves nothing so much as the man who lives with wisdom. For she is more beautiful than the sun, and excels every constellation of the stars. Compared with the light she is found to be superior for it is succeeded by the night, but against wisdom evil does not prevail. She reaches mightily from one end of the earth to the other, and she orders all things well. (Wisdom 7:22 – 8:1) I was wondering why the author uses the feminine for Wisdom, since the Holy Spirit is masculine. And it occurred to me that this description of Wisdom looks a lot like Our Lady. Why? Because she is the Spouse of the Holy Spirit, and all His gifts are given to her in abundance. She demonstrates Wisdom at its highest. And so we see Wisdom very clearly in Mary. Isn’t she “intelligent, holy, unique, unpolluted, distinct, invulnerable, loving the good, keen, irresistible, beneficent, humane, steadfast, sure, free from anxiety…a reflection of eternal light, a spotless mirror of the working of God, and an image of his goodness?” Our Lady wants us to be like her, a pure child of God. And so we will be more and more filled with the gift of Wisdom if we live her messages and follow her Son. “She renews all things; in every generation she passes into holy souls and makes them friends of God, and prophets; for God loves nothing so much as the man who lives with wisdom.” Doesn’t Our Lady do exactly this, she passes into holy souls, and teaches them how to be friends of God. St. Louis de Montfort taught us this. Mary teaches us how to be friends of God. She leads us to her Son, and unites us to Him. Mary is “more beautiful than the sun, and excels every constellation of the stars, and in our day she reaches mightily from one end of the earth to the other, and she orders all things well.” Thank you, O Blessed Trinity, for giving us such a Mother who is clothed with the sun and has a crown of twelve stars to help us live in this time of grace!
