Choose life! March 3, 2022 Dear Family of Mary! Every day of our lives we must make the choice for or against God. We cannot grow slack in making that choice at every moment of every day. Why? Because Satan spends every moment of every day seeking a way to lead us away from God. He never sleeps. His only desire is to drag each one of us off into hell for eternity. We live in a war zone. That is why God spoke these words to His people as He led them into the promised land. He knew that the battle for their souls was far from over. He instructed them to “Choose life” constantly, by embracing His commandments. His commandments opened the path to life. They led to a life of truth and goodness. Listen to the words of the Lord through Moses: Deuteronomy  30:15-20 Moses said to the people: “Today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and doom. If you obey the commandments of the Lord, your God, which I enjoin on you today, loving him, and walking in his ways, and keeping his commandments, statutes and decrees, you will live and grow numerous, and the Lord, your God, will bless you in the land you are entering to occupy. If, however, you turn away your hearts and will not listen, but are led astray and adore and serve other gods, I tell you now that you will certainly perish; you will not have a long life on the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and occupy. I call heaven and earth today to witness against you: I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the Lord, your God, heeding his voice, and ­holding fast to him. For that will mean life for you, a long life for you to live on the land that the Lord swore he would give to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” We have our own Moses in these days. Our Lady is with us to continue to lead us to life, to show us how to choose life. She also warns us of the battle we are in on a daily basis. Like Moses, she warns us of the dangers we face, while guiding us into life: March 25, 1996 “Dear children! I invite you to decide again to love God above all else. In this time when due to the spirit of consumerism one forgets what it means to love and to cherish true values, I invite you again, little children, to put God in the first place in your life. Do not let satan attract you through material things but, little children, decide for God who is freedom and love. Choose life and not death of the soul, little children, and in this time when you meditate upon the suffering and death of Jesus I invite you to decide for life which blossomed through the Resurrection, and that your life may be renewed today through conversion that shall lead you to eternal life. Thank you for having responded to my call…” Choose life and not death of the soul!!! This is our daily, often minute by minute, battle. But if we win our battles, we will pave the way for many others to follow. Our families, our neighbors, our parishes, our fellow workers…Our choices make a huge difference to all those around us.
