Feast of St. Lawrence
Dear Family of Mary!
Today the Church celebrates the Christian Witness of St. Lawrence, who was martyred in 258, in Rome.
He was roasted on a gridiron by Emperor Valerian for giving all the assets of the Church to the poor.Indeed, we need to be ready to give our lives for Jesus. He showed us the way, through His death on the Cross. And He called us to be ready to lose our lives in witness to the Truth as well. Here is our Gospel for today:
John 12:24-26
Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me.” The Gospel of the Lord.
Jesus’ call is very serious. It goes against all our instincts. Only our love for Jesus can give us the strength and courage to follow Him in such a way that we are ready to give up our lives for Jesus.
This is indeed a matter for prayer. Our Lady gave us a beautiful message in which shecalls us to live our Christian vocation, which is to give up our lives for Jesus.

“Dear children! Today I invite you to comprehend your Christian vocation. Little children, I led and am leading you through this time of grace, that you may become conscious of your Christian vocation. Holy martyrs died witnessing: I am a Christian and love God over everything. Little children, today also I invite you to rejoice and be joyful Christians, responsible and conscious that God called you in a special way to be joyfully extended hands toward those who do not believe, and that through the example of your life, they may receive faith and love for God. Therefore, pray, pray, pray that your heart may open and be sensitive for the Word of God. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
We do not know what God will ask of us in the future, but Our Lady wants us to be ready for it through our loving union with her Son. The closer we are to Jesus and Mary, the more ready we will be for whatever comes in the future. So let us “pray, pray, pray!”
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
