Novena to the Holy Spirit – Day Four

Dear Family of Mary!

Today we call upon the Holy Spirit as Fire. Jesus came “to cast fire on the earth” (Lk 12:40). John the Baptist understood this Fire, and told his followers about it: “John answered them all, ‘I baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire'” (Lk 3: 16). This Fire which is the Holy Spirit has a purifying and empowering effect on those who receive Him. Fire burns away what is not of God and sets hearts ablaze with love for God. It is a dangerous thing to receive the Holy Spirit! Life changes.

Our Lady told us to desire this Fire:

Wednesday, March 14, 1984
“Pray and fast so that the kingdom of God may come among you. Let my Son set you aglow with His fire.”

And in the Acts of the Apostles we see the power of this Fire as it descends on the Apostles:

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Act 2: 1-4)

Everything changed for the Apostles at that moment. They became fearless witnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus! They could not be stopped until the entire world knew about Jesus!

Let us pray for this gift of Fire:

And one extra prayer today. A prayer of consecration to Our Lady that was dictated to Jelena Vasilj in 1983. This prayer speaks of the “Flame of your heart, oh Mary!” This Flame can be none other than the Fire of the Holy Spirit, because her heart was really the Holy Spirit Himself!
