The 40th Anniversary of the Apparitions of Our Lady in Medjugorje!! June 25, 2021 Dear Family of Mary! Happy and blessed 40th Anniversary of the Apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Medjugorje! We have arrived at this anniversary of one of the most powerful spiritual events in modern times! Our Lady came to this little village to begin a long and beautiful motherly relationship with all of us! And she has continued that relationship without cease all these 40 years. Our gratitude grows and grows as we understand the magnitude of this gift. Let’s look back at the second encounter that the visionaries had with Our Lady, the encounter that would mark the anniversary date. Here is the simple retelling of the first conversation the visionaries had with Our Lady on this day 40 years ago. They had the typical concerns of young people, because they were such normal children! Thursday, June 25, 1981: The date of the first apparition for the group of six visionaries, who see Our Lady nearby on the hill: Our Lady says: “Praised be Jesus!” Ivanka speaks: Where is my mother? (Her mother had died two months previously.) The Apparition replies: “She is happy. She is with me.” The visionaries ask: Will you return tomorrow? The apparition answers with a nod of her head. Mirjana interjects:No one will believe us. They will say that we are crazy. Give us a sign! The apparition responds only with a smile. Mirjana believed she had received a sign. Her watch had changed time during the apparition. The Apparition departs, saying:“Goodbye, my angels. Go in the peace of God.” Our Lady was so gentle as she greeted the children that day. She said very little, but looked at them with her loving eyes, and nodded reassuringly to their questions. She wanted them to slowly warm up to her. She knew that her relationship with them would be critical for the plans of the Father,and that they were fragile children, needing to feel safe and understood. Our Lady comes to each of us in the same gentle and respectful way. She does not shock or frighten her children. She offers her gentle hand to guide us, her loving gaze to comfort us, and her motherly arms to embrace us. Even today, here 40 years later, she is the same. She leads only with love. And she calls us with gentleness and much care, asking us to help her in her task of converting the world.I feel Our Lady very close today, very close this entire week. She is here. And she is still loving us with her Immaculate Heart, loving us into Heaven. I will send out the message we hope to receive from her today through Marija, as soon as I can.   The Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist The Day Our Lady first appeared in 1981 June 24, 2021 Dear Family of Mary!Wednesday, June 24, 1981 The visionaries see a distant apparition of a young woman in a long grey dress holding a baby in her arms on the hill of Crnica (now known as Apparition Hill). Forty years ago, today, Our Lady first appeared. It was the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. She was high up on the hill of Crnica. But from below the young people saw her, holding a baby in her arms. They were frightened and confused. And they ran away!! I have recently wondered what it must have been like to suddenly see a heavenly being standing among the brambles and bushes of a rugged hill that had always been there, empty and barren. Think about it. What was it like for everyone in Medjugorje 15 days before Our Lady came? The grownups were working very hard to feed their families. Poverty was a constant. They worked in their vineyards and tobacco fields for long hours every day. And they lived a humble rural life. I am absolutely sure that no one had ever thought or even imagined that Our Lady would appear to 6 of the young people in their village. The idea would not have entered their minds. Not for a moment. Never! And yet it happened. And when it did the event triggered a huge change in that village. Our Lady came that first day, and the next, and the next, and the next. And as her coming became a daily event, the village had to come to terms with the presence of the Mother of God in their midst. And here we are 40 years later, coming to Medjugorje in order to be near to the presence of the Blessed Mother, who has not left the village for all these years. We come to be near her. We come to give our hearts to her and to experience her love. We come to learn from her how to love her Son. And we snuggle close to her as little ones who need the security of their mother. Medjugorje has become for us all a home, a family gathering. It is the same this year as all the others. Our Lady is here, quietly and gently loving us into holiness. We are the most blessed of children with such a Mother!! As she once told us: March 18, 2014 “Dear children! As a mother, I desire to be of help to you. With my motherly love, I desire to help you to open your heart and to put my Son in the first place in it. Through your love for my Son and through your prayer, I desire for God’s light to illuminate you and God’s mercy to fill you. In this way, I desire for the darkness, and the shadow of death which wants to encompass and mislead you, to be driven away. I desire for you to feel the joy of the blessing of God’s promise. You, children of man, you are God’s children – you are my children. Therefore, my children, set out on the ways on which my love leads you, teaches you humility and wisdom, and finds the way to the Heavenly Father. Pray with me for those who do not accept me and do not follow me – those who, because of hardness of their hearts, cannot feel the joy of humility, devotion, peace and love – the joy of my Son. Pray that your shepherds, with their blessed hands, may always give you the joy of God’s blessing. Thank you.” Thank you, dearest Mother. We will pray as you ask! We love you. 40th Anniversary Novena, Day 9 “Be my extended hands in this lost world.” June 23, 2021 Dear Family of Mary! Novena before the 40th Anniversary Day 9: May 25, 2021 “Dear children! Today I am looking at you and calling: return to God because He is love and out of love has sent me to you to lead you on the way of conversion. Leave sin and evil, decide for holiness and joy will begin to reign; and you will be my extended hands in this lost world. I desire that you be prayer and hope to those who have not come to know the God of love. Thank you for having responded to my call.” “…you will be my extended hands in this lost world.” Our Lady looked at us on May 25, and what did she see? She saw her children who needed to return to God! She saw so many of us in need of conversion. She saw sin and evil beginning to infect us again. But instead of getting discouraged, what did she say? “Decide for holiness and joy will begin to reign!!” We simply have to change our hearts and minds and choose holiness again. Just do it! And the best part, then we will become her extended hands in this lost world. At first I didn’t think much about being her extended hands. But as I prayed, I realized that she has been working through her children for all these 40 years of her presence in Medjugorje. And those children have been her extended hands for ME!! I began to remember so many times when one of her children in Medjugorje offered me help so freely, and gave it so beautifully! And it changed my life. And as I prayed about it, I saw that there were many, many people who were her extended hands to me. So many!! And they blessed me so much!! (Thank you to each of you who have blessed me with your help and love…I am forever grateful!) A good way to begin to be extended hands for Our Lady is by recognizing those who have been her extended hands for us, and then imitating them in their generosity, kindness, witness, and love. These extended hands of Our Lady are changing the world!   40th Anniversary Novena, Day 8 I have come with the name “Queen of Peace” June 22, 2021 Dear Family of Mary! Novena before the 40th Anniversary Day 8: April 25, 2021 “Dear children! Today I am calling you to witness your faith in the colors of spring. May this be a faith of hope and courage. May your faith, little children, not waver in any situation, not even in this time of trial. Go courageously with the risen Christ towards Heaven, which is your goal. I am accompanying you on this way of holiness and am placing all of you in my Immaculate Heart. Thank you for having responded to my call.” As we progress through these messages leading up to the 40th Anniversary, we see that they become more and more full of light and hope, or courage and power! In this message, Our Lady speaks of the colors of spring! When spring emerges we begin to feel the power of life! Spring reminds us that God is with us, and that we have nothing to fear. We get faith from the emergence of new life! But she cautions us not to let our faith waver. Faith is a gift we must cherish. Never give it up, no matter what trial we face. “Go courageously with the risen Christ towards Heaven, which is your goal!!!” Our Lady is our best cheer leader! She wants us to grasp the truth that the Risen Christ is our leader, and He leads us to Heaven. And she is with us on the way, never letting us be alone. She loves us so much that she places each one of us in her Immaculate Heart! No fear!!! No wavering!!! We are being led into eternity by Our Lady and Jesus!! Do you feel the crescendo? 40th Anniversary Novena, Day 7 I have come with the name “Queen of Peace” June 21, 2021 Dear Family of Mary! Day 7 of our Novena before the 40th Anniversary: March 25, 2021 “Dear children! Also, today I am with you to tell you: Little children, he who prays does not fear the future and does not lose hope. You are chosen to carry joy and peace, because you are mine. I have come here with the name ‘Queen of Peace’ because the devil wants peacelessness and war, he wants to fill your heart with fear of the future – but the future is God’s. That is why, be humble and pray, and surrender everything into the hands of the Most High Who created you. Thank you for having responded to my call.” In this message Our Lady addressed all our fears: “…Little children, he who prays does not fear the future and does not lose hope…” We can learn from these words of our Mother that he who fears the future and is losing hope is he who does not pray. If we find ourselves awash in fear, seeing the future as dark and foreboding, then we need to repent, and start to pray from the heart as she has taught us to do all these years. Wouldn’t we be fools to disregard what Our Mother had taught us for 40 years, and to let the darkness overcome us? Our Lady told us: “I have come here with the name ‘Queen of Peace’” Our Lady came to us, sent by God, to bring a message. And the message came in her title first announced by her on Thursday, August 6, 1981:“I am the Queen of Peace.” Our Lady came with this title, because she was sent to stand in opposition to the devil who was instigating wars and hatred throughout the world – “…because the devil wants peacelessness and war, he wants to fill your heart with fear of the future…” Our adversary is casting a web of fear and despair over the world in our day. It is his plan to lead us to despair. He wants to kill all hope, and fill us with darkness. But with four words Our Lady stops him in his tracks: “…but the future is God’s.” Whenever we are tempted to fear or despair, to hopelessness or darkness, we need only say those four words with faith, the the darkness will dissipate: “…but the future is God’s.” And then live Our Lady’s call, her messages, her life: That is why, be humble and pray, and surrender everything into the hands of the Most High Who created you. This is our future, our hope, and our safety: humility, prayer and surrender into the hands of our Creator and God!   40th Anniversary Novena, Day 6 God has permitted me to be with you… Dear Family of Mary! This is Day 6 of our Novena before the 40th Anniversary! February 25, 2021 “Dear children! God has permitted me to be with you also today, to call you to prayer and fasting. Live this time of grace and be witnesses of hope, because I repeat to you, little children, that with prayer and fasting also wars can be suppressed. Little children, believe and live this time of grace in faith and with faith; and my Immaculate Heart does not leave any of you in peacelessness if you have recourse to me. I intercede for you before the Most High and I pray for peace in your hearts and for hope for the future. Thank you for having responded to my call.” In this message we see again that Our Lady did not come of her own volition, but with the permission of God! He it is who allows Our Lady to be with us! He knows how very good it is for us to be with her. She is such a gift of faith, hope and love for us. We see how many people have been healed and changed by encountering Our Lady in Medjugorje. God wants us to spend time with Our Lady! He loves that we come to Medjugorje to be with her!! The Father also sends Our Lady because she can help us to suppress the wars in the world. She is the Queen of Peace! She knows how to bring peace. Prayer and fasting bring peace. And that is why she has established such a vibrant culture of prayer and fasting in Medjugorje. It is a powerful engine for peace. Our Lady says she will not leave any of us in peacelessness! But we must have recourse to her. That means we must turn to her and seek her out. Spend time with her and let her teach us the ways of peace! Finally, Our Lady intercedes for us with the Most High for peace in our hearts and hope for the future! She is the best of intercessors. She is the gift of peace in these days of war. She is the way to peace. We are blessed to be her children! I am calling you at this time to prayer, fasting and renunciation, that you may be stronger in faith. This is a time of awakening and of giving birth. As nature, which gives itself, you also, little children, ponder how much you have received. Be joyful bearers of peace and love that it may be good for you on earth. Yearn for Heaven; and in Heaven there is no sorrow or hatred. That is why, little children, decide anew for conversion and let holiness begin to reign in your life. Thank you for having responded to my call.” Our Lady started us off in 2021 with some strong directives: A call to prayer, fasting and renunciation… A call to be stronger in faith… A call to awaken and give birth… A call to ponder how much you have received… A call to be joyful bearers of peace and love… A call to yearn for Heaven… A call to have no sorrow or hatred… A call to decide anew for conversion… A call to let holiness begin to reign in your life…. We see that Our Lady doesn’t coddle us! She has big plans for us that require holiness, strength and discipline. Mary has big plans for new awakenings and new births into holiness!!   40th Anniversary Novena, Day 4 June 18, 2021 Dear Family of Mary! Day 4 of our Novena before the 40th Anniversary: December 25, 2020 “Dear children! I am carrying to you little Jesus who brings you peace, Him who is the past, present and future of your existence. Little children, do not permit for your faith and hope in a better future to be extinguished, because you are chosen to be witnesses of hope in every situation. That is why I am here with Jesus that He may bless you with His peace. Thank you for having responded to my call.” Our Lady gave us her perspective in this message from last Christmas. She carried the Baby Jesus to us, just as she did on the very first day of her apparitions to the visionaries (June 24, 1981). Our Lady brought Jesus that first day as a sign of peace. She didn’t want the young people to be afraid of her then. And she doesn’t want us to be afraid of her now. With Baby Jesus, Our Lady brings to us the perspective of Heaven. Jesus is the past, present and future of our existences. Jesus gives meaning to everything. He is Lord of everything. There is nothing in our present time that He cannot overcome. There is nothing in the future that is not in His hands. And there is nothing in our past that He cannot heal and forgive. We should have great hope in every situation because of Jesus. In fact we are called to be hope for all those around us who do not know Jesus. This perspective will give us peace. We have nothing to fear, Jesus and Mary are with us in this time of trial. St. James Church during the 30th Anniversary – 2011 40th Anniversary Novena, Day 3 June 17, 2021 Dear Family of Mary! Day 3 of our Novena before the 40th Anniversary: November 25, 2020 “Dear children! This is a time of love, warmth, prayer and joy. Pray, little children, for little Jesus to be born in your hearts. Open your hearts to Jesus who gives Himself to each of you. God sent me to be joy and hope in this time, and I am saying to you: Without little Jesus you do not have the tenderness or the feeling of Heaven which is hidden in the Newborn. Therefore, little children, work on yourselves. By reading the Sacred Scripture you will discover Jesus’ birth and joy, as in the first days which Medjugorje gave to humanity. History will be truth which, also today, is being repeated in you and around you. Work on and build peace through the Sacrament of Confession. Reconcile with God, little children, and you will see miracles around you. Thank you for having responded to my call.” Mother, you call us to work on ourselves! We must open our hearts to Jesus, so He can give Himself to us! We must read Sacred Scripture in order to discover Jesus, just as we did in the first days of your coming to Medjugorje. You tell us history can be repeated, Jesus can come again in our lives and change us. The world can be changed when we are changed. Mother, don’t leave us. After 40 years we are still in great need of your presence.   That is why I am with you so long… 40th Anniversary Novena, Day 2 June 16, 2021 Dear Family of Mary! Day 2 of our Novena before the 40th Anniversary: October 25, 2020 “Dear children, At this time, I am calling you to return to God and to prayer. Invoke the help of all the saints, for them to be an example and a help to you. Satan is strong and is fighting to draw all the more hearts to himself. He wants war and hatred. That is why I am with you for this long, to lead you to the way of salvation, to Him who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Little children, return to the love for God and He will be your strength and refuge. Thank you for having responded to my call.” Mother, we know that we are caught in a world wide battle with the evil one. He is trying to draw all people away from your Son, Jesus. We thank you for being with us this long, to help us in the battle. In fact you are leading the battle against the enemy of our souls. We cling to you and want to help you as best we can.
