Today I am so happy to share one of them! Fr. Paul Montague gave this homily of June 18, 2024 at English Mass! It is so lovely and so true!! Paul Montague A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew, Matthew 5:43-48 Jesus said to His disciples, “You have heard that it was said, ‘you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, ‘Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,’ that you may be children of your Heavenly Father; for He makes His sun rise on the bad and on the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your Heavenly Father is perfect.” The Gospel of the Lord HOMILY As I was reflecting on my pilgrimage here to Medjugorje, I was asking myself, “What is it that makes this place so special?” And a poem came to mind by William Butler Yeats: I’ll arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made; Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee, And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow, And evening full of the linnet’s wings. I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, I hear it in the deep heart’s core. –The Lake Isle of Innisfree If we were to take the word “Innisfree” out and replace it with “Medjugorje”: I’ll arise and go now, and go to Medjugorje; And I shall have some Peace there, For Peace comes dropping slow; Dropping from the veils of the morning To where the cricket sings. I think that we all can identify here in Medjugorje that:  “Peace.” “Mir” – the Peace that Our Lady speaks of so often. And we all wish for that Peace. And Our Lady asks us to pray for Peace. “Peace must reign between man and God, and between all people.” “Pray for Peace in your heart,” Then, “in your families.”    And after that, you can “carry Peace to the whole world.”  So that “you become makers of my Peace in the world.” Our Lady also said that to those of us who are entrusted with this mission, “Do not be afraid of anything.” When referring to Medjugorje, Our Lady has said that what she started in Fatima, she will finish in Medjugorje. And what happened in Fatima? Our Lady came to warn the people that there were times of great danger in 1917, and she came to the three children. She appeared to them bearing messages to the people of God; calling mankind to repentance, and to rediscover their faith in God. She came at a time in the world when there were so many great evils lurking in the midst of the first World War – then known as the Great War – when millions of people lost their lives. And the year 1917 was the beginning of the Communist movement gaining momentum and power throughout the world. Beginning in Russia, when the Bolshevik Revolution succeeded and allowing the Communists to establish the world’s first Communist regime. And like Ahab and Jezebel, they confiscated people’s private property and took away their rights. The time was followed saw the extermination of countless faithful – both the laity and the priests alike. The closure of many churches and parishes. And the spread of atheism, not just throughout Russia, but also throughout many other parts of the world. We now know, of course, in hindsight, that Our Lady succeeded in the destruction of the Russian Communist empire which held much of Eastern Europe in tyranny. When I first came to Medjugorje in the early 1980’s, Medjugorje was under Communist rule in the former Yugoslavia. I observed first-hand an oppressed people, who suffered like Naboth from injustice. On the 25th of June, 1981, the present six visionaries – Ivanka, Mirjana, Viska, Marija, Ivan, and Yakov – saw Our Lady, or “the Gospa,” on the Hill. The supernatural events which followed continued despite all the efforts of the Communists who were in power at the time, to stop and suppress it. Many scientific studies – even the condemnation of the local Bishop – did not suppress the apparitions, giving strong evidence that these events were from God. During the bitter war which broke out in the region, Medjugorje remained an oasis of Peace, because people listened to Our Lady’s messages and implemented them in their lives. This was due to the fact that they did respond to Our Lady’s message. And, in fact, many millions of people have come here. Millions of conversions have taken place, which are so powerful that they are changing, and will continue to change the whole face of the earth. Perhaps the greatest miracle of Medjugorje are the confessions which take place. The Sacrament of Reconciliation of Mercy and Forgiveness has practically disappeared in the western world, with the odd exception here and there. Therefore, the heart of man has closed. The western world is now in moral decay, and the powers-that-be are seeking a Godless society, where religious freedom and freedom of expression are suppressed and controlled. It is almost back to the situation in the former Yugoslavia when Communism reigned. I remember living in New Zealand when I came to Medjugorje in those times, and thinking how wonderful it was to have freedom of expression, freedom to practice your religion. And now I discover that in my own country, things such as religion are not spoken out very much. Your faith; people are reluctant to speak about their faith. Why? Because the demons are at work in our society to destroy all presence of God. However, promoting a Godless society has its consequences, which is all too evident and ultimately will lead to the destruction of that society; unless people repent and turn back to God as Ahab did. If mankind does not turn away from the sinful ways and begin to make the journey towards repentance, many sufferings, sorrows and evils will come. The world is becoming spiritually dry. Evil is strengthening. Conflicts are multiplying. And people are fearful of the future. We are all called to be Apostles of Good News, Conversion and Peace in this world. Because the consequences of sin is war, and that is now trampling right on our doorstep. It is no coincidence that Our Lady has asked us to pray for Peace. We may feel powerless to do anything about the situation – almost like a David versus Goliath. But remember, David destroyed Goliath with a single stone. Our Lady gives us Five Stones, or weapons, more powerful than any nuclear arsenal, which we can use to overcome the power and influence of evil and sin in our lives, and in our world. And those Five Stones are: Prayer – to pray with the heart with Love, Trust, Abandonment. Prayer heals human souls; heals the history of sin. Without prayer we can’t have an experience of God. Fasting – You know that many occasions in the Old Testament are examples of Fasting. Our Lady asks us to Fast. She suggests bread and water. Through fasting and prayers, one can stop wars, can suspend the natural laws of nature. Daily Reading of the Bible – If we want to commune and know about God, we need to read His Word, to allow that Word to transform us. Confession – Our Lady asks for monthly Confession. From the very first days of the apparitions, she has asked us to go to Confession regularly and to receive Holy Communion. And she said also, “Monthly Confession will be a remedy for the Church in the west.” And the Eucharist – She tells us to make sure we go to the Eucharist: Sunday Mass; and where possible, Daily Mass. Why?  Because we are receiving the food for the souls. We are receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. Christ’s Blood is coursing through our veins. We are strengthened in our Faith and in our Trust. Just as in 1917, Our Lady appeals for help. She is depending on us to help her. We know from her many apparitions that she is depending on our Rosaries, which Padre Pio often referred to as the “weapon against Satan.” In 1917 in Fatima, Our Lady said, “Continue to pray the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady to obtain Peace for the world.” And she revealed herself as, “Our Lady of the Rosary.” She also prayed the Rosary, remember, with St. Bernadette at Lourdes; again emphasizing the power of the Rosary. Today, as in 1917, war threatens; so the need to pray is great. Let us join Mary’s spirit of Love and become her prayer warriors to defeat the evil which threatens our world. Let prayer transform us so that we may be Apostles of Love and fulfilment of Christ’s commandment to, “Love our enemies” and “to pray for those who persecute us.” If we resolve to implement Our Lady’s messages in Medjugorje, we can be confident of success in the knowledge that Our Lady herself said, “What I started in Fatima, I will finish in Medjugorje.  My Heart will Triumph!” And as we arise to return to our respective homelands, let us hold on to the Peace that we have found here in Medjugorje and fetter it in our hearts. On the 43rd Anniversary of her coming to Medjugorje, Our Lady gave us this message: June 25, 2024 Message “Dear children! I rejoice with you and thank God for permitting me to be with you, to lead you and love you. Little children, peace is in danger and the family is under attack. I am calling you, little children: return to prayer in the family. Put Sacred Scripture in a visible place and read it every day. Love God above all that it may be good for you on earth.   June 25, 2024 Dear Family of Mary! God bless us all on this wonderful day, the 43rd Anniversary of Our Lady’s coming to Medjugorje!!! The Lord sent His Mother to the little town of Medjugorje on this day in 1981 to begin a great work of His Mercy in our time. Our Lady came to 6 young people, who ran away the day before, but stayed on this day and spoke to her! Here is their conversation: Thursday, June 25, 1981 (The date of the first apparition for the group of six visionaries, who see Our Lady nearby on the hill.) Our Lady said: “Praised be Jesus!” Ivanka asked: “Where is my mother?” (Her mother had died two months previously.) Our Lady said: “She is happy. She is with me.” The visionaries asked: “Will you return tomorrow?” Our Lady answered with a nod of her head. Mirjana said: “No one will believe us. They will say that we are crazy. Give us a sign!” Our Lady responded only with a smile. Mirjana believed she had received a sign. Her watch had changed time during the apparition. “Goodbye, my angels. Go in the peace of God.” From this simple encounter, a strong relationship developed between the six young people and Our Lady. A relationship that has lasted 43 years!!!! Let us not forget that Our Lady has not changed. She is gentle, patient, kind, and loving to each one of us! She comes to us, though we cannot see her, in a special way in Medjugorje. She is mothering each one of us, and she is also preparing us to help her with her magnificent plan to save her children throughout the world. If we stay in that relationship of a child with Our Lady, she will be able to work in us and through us for the greater good of the whole world!! Last night, June 24, Our Lady came for the 9th time on Apparition Hill, where Marija and Ivan were waiting for her. We had prayed three sets of mysteries of the Rosary together in anticipation of her coming and as a response to her desire that we pray for peace! She came to Ivan and Marija, simultaneously! They both looked up indepentently, but at the same time when she came! It was so moving to see them both converse with the very Mother who came to them 43 years ago on the same hill!!! Here is what Our Lady said to us through the visionaries last night: Maria and Ivan – June 24, 2024 At the time of the apparition when Gospa came, Ivan and I offered up this novena. Gospa smiled and she was very joyful, and she thanked us for our prayers and sacrifices and she said “continue!” Gospa came dressed in a golden dress, standing on a cloud with a crown of stars on her head! We recommended to Gospa all of us, all of our intentions, and everything we have in our hearts. Also today Gospa prayed in her motherly language Aramaic. She prayed for a longer time and blessed us all. Let’s continue, just as Our Lady asked! Continue to pray, fast, offer up our sacrifices, and yearn for peace! Marija and Ivan greet Our Lady together! June 24, 2024 Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist The day Our Lady first appeared to the Children in Medjugorje Anniversary Novena Day 9 Dear Family of Mary! Well we have made it to the 9th day of the Novena!! And 43 years ago today, Our Lady first appeared to the visionaries in Medjugorje! She came, holding Baby Jesus in her arms! She was introducing herself to them. But they ran away!! It was terrifying to them. I am always so intrigued by the choice of days for Our Lady to first come. Why would she choose the Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist as the first day to come to us? In the Magnificat for June, there is a very succinct description of why John the Baptist is so amazing. It reads: “John the Baptist is the only figure other than Mary and Jesus whose birth is celebrated in the Church’s liturgy. John the Baptist had the unique and awesome vocation of being the Forerunner, the one whose preaching and witness prepared the way for Christ. He had the incomparable privilege of baptizing the Lord and was called to anticipate Christ’s Passion by shedding his own blood for the truth.” Why would Our Lady be sent on this day to the children? I believe it is because she has been given the same role that John the Baptist had all those years ago. She is now coming to prepare the way for Christ, in His second coming!! She is the forerunner for Jesus’ coming anew! Now let’s think about these special apparitions on Apparition Hill during these nine days before the 43rd Anniversary. Our Lady initiated these times of prayer, specifying that Marija meet with all who would come on Apparition Hill, at 10:00 pm each night for nine days, ending on this day, John the Baptist’s feast day. It can’t be an accident. God and Our Lady are trying to tell us something. Could it be that today there will be a fulfillment of what Our Lady was sent to do all those years ago. Could it be that God’s plan is going to move forward now? It does seem that God’s plan is being manifested by the joy and faith of the people that are joining on Apparition Hill and augmented by the thousands of people joining through our live stream, in these 9 days. Our Joy and prayer together is a manifestation of God’s plan through Our Lady! We have been invited for one more night at 10:00 pm to meet on Apparition Hill with Marija and Ivan, whether physically or by live stream, to pray for peace! And that is enough to know! Let’s be there!! A brief recap of last night’s prayer gathering: There were many people on Apparition Hill! The prayer started early, at about 9:30 pm. Marija was joined by fellow visionary, Ivan Dragicevic. The presence of Ivan was a great joy for us all! To see Ivan and Marija sitting next to each other before the statue of Our Lady was a great comfort! Ivan helped Marija lead the prayer. It was like old times!! Marjia gave some opening remarks: “Good evening, this is the 8th Day of Our Lady’s Novena! Please don’t take any photos, turn off your cell phones, sit down, kneel, open your hearts to be ready to pray for Gospa’s intentions…” We prayed and prayed and prayed! And at 11:30, Marjia and Ivan knelt to prepare for Our Lady’s coming. And she came quickly. It was such a great joy to see both visionaries interacting with Our Lady!! Each one had their own conversation with her, but she was before them both at once! It was so exciting. Marija shared about the apparition with Our Lady in this way: “At the time of apparition when Gospa came, I recommended to Gospa all of us, all our intentions, everything that we have in our hearts. 43rd Anniversary Novena , Day 8 June 23, 2024 Dear Family of Mary! Today is Day 8 of the Anniversary Novena with Marija. Mary TV will again stream the entire evening of prayer, live, so that we can all join in the novena prayers. My team has told me that there are thousands of people connected to Apparition Hill each night through Mary TV! The stats are amazing!! I feel this is a sign to us all! There are many, many people from all over the world who are united in this prayer for peace which Our Lady leads. This is a powerful event! Marija greeted the crowd that covered Apparition Hill with these words: “Welcome everyone! Last night we forgot but tonight we will announce it. Let’s turn off cameras, phones and everything that takes photos. We don’t need any kind of publicity here, Our Lady is calling us to pray, to pray for peace. Please sit down, kneel down and pray! Don’t talk to each other but listen to Gospa in your heart and respond to her call. Because Gospa is calling us and we are responding, responding to her call, responding to pray for peace, responding because we will tell Gospa “yes I do want to pray for peace, for peace in the World as you dear Gospa requested.” Then the prayer began. It seemed to me that there were even more people last night than ever before! We prayed the Joyful and the Sorrowful Mysteries together, interspersed with messages from Our Lady and beautiful songs accompanied by Roland. It was heavenly! Then we began the Glorious Mysteries. After the second mystery, Marija knelt up and all went silent. Our Lady came, silently. Our only clue was Marija’s face! She looked up, way up above her, and her eyes hardly ever blinked. She spoke silently, nodding her head. Finally, Marija’s eyes followed Our Lady as she withdrew, going up and up until she was out of sight. We began to pray a bit more, and then Marija told us about her encounter with Our Lady. She said: “Tonight when Our Lady came she didn’t give a message but she did pray over us in her Aramaic language. I recommended all of us, all of our intentions and everything we have in our hearts. Gospa did say tomorrow come to the same place at the same time. She blessed us in the sign on the cross and went into heaven.” It was a bit hard to not have any special words from Our Lady last night. But I think she had been talking to each of us instead. I felt her very close. I want to share a prayer that I wrote down. I felt these words coming from my heart. They were heavenly words and I think Our Lady was giving them to me. It is only my personal meditation, but I suspect you all will understand it as well: “In the dark of Apparition Hill we sit together, praying the decades of joy, sorrow, and glory together for peace. We are together responding to your call, Mother. Nothing could be more simple, more peaceful, more human than these prayers in the dark with you. “It helps to be in the dark, sheltered from the eyes of others, in a warm cocoon of love with you, Mother. We sing, in the dark, of Heaven and the Good, with Faith as our surety. We are glad for each other’s company – though we do not know each other’s names. All we know is that you drew us together and so we are content. “Gather our poor prayers tonight into a bouquet of love for Jesus. We long to be with Him in Heaven – we long for all those who are not here to be one day with us in the love that binds us together in your heart! Oh Mother of Jesus, bring us to your son, a bouquet of love! Amen” Today, June 23, we will gather at the same time on Apparition Hill together, for the 8th Day of the 43rd Anniversary Novena! Anniversary Novena with Marija, Day 7   June 22, 2024 Dear Family of Mary! Today is Day 7 of our Novena on Apparition Hill! Join us, live, at a little before 10 PM Medjugorje time tonight, June 22, for the prayer gathering with Maria! Our Lady will be waiting for us!! Tell your friends. https://marytv.tv/ Last night, June 21, there were very many people on Apparition Hill, long in advance of the prayer of the Rosary for the Novena before the Anniversary. There was great joy and expectancy in the air!! This concerted effort to pray the Rosary with great faith and hope is paying off. Truly there is great joy! Marija began the prayer with these words: “Welcome here to the ‘Foothill of our dear Gospa’. Now we will start our 6th day of the Novena and pray for peace in the World as Gospa requested.” Maria then started praying the Rosary. We prayed two sets of mysteries, the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries. In between the decades were many songs!! Roland and Melinda led the singing, and it was wonderful! Finally, as 11:30 approached, the crowd became silent and Marija knelt in expectation, praying another decade of the rosary. Our Lady came, and all was silent. Marija had quite a lengthy conversation with her. All gathered on Apparition Hill had their own private conversations with Our Lady as well. It is a very intimate moment. You feel her in all her loveliness and goodness. It is healing just to be there. Finally, Marija’s eyes gazed up and up as Our Lady rose into the sky. It is so tender a moment, to see Marija, like a child, gazing after her Mother with such love and wonder. Then Marija shared the words Our Lady gave her for us: Tonight at the time of the apparition, I recommended to Gospa all of us, all of our intentions and everything that we have in our hearts. In a special way I prayed to Gospa to intercede in front of her Son Jesus for Peace in the World. Gospa prayed over us in her Aramaic language and blessed us all. And at the end, Gospa blessed us and went into heaven in the sign of the cross. I forgot one more thing, Gospa said tomorrow “same time same place!” We cannot fathom what Our Lady actually knows about the world, but we know that she does not come to us on a whim. The Father sends her to us to help us in our lives, as individuals and families, and also as nations. She is the Queen of Heaven and Earth. And she is on a mission to save her children. Let’s hold on to her presence with both hands and our whole heart. She will show us all the way to peace. This is her highest priority right now. Let us pray for peace with her. Anniversary Novena Day 6   June 21, 2024 Dear Family of Mary! Today is Day 6 of our Novena on Apparition Hill! Join us, live, at 10 PM Medjugorje time tonight, June 21, for the prayer gathering with Maria! Our Lady will be waiting for us!! Tell your friends. https://marytv.tv/ We are all getting accustomed to the way Marija is leading us in prayer for this novena. She begins with a little encouragement and then we sing a song. Then we begin the prayer of the Rosary, Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries. We pray in many languages and wait patiently for translations. Together we are a family gathered around our Mother! It is a taste of Heaven!! At 11:30 pm Marija began a decade of the Rosary. She prayed it slowly and deliberately. Her eyes were slightly raised in anticipation. We all wait for her face to light up with joy as Our Lady appears. It happened just that way last night! Our Lady stayed for quite a long time. Then she left, as we could see by Marija’s eyes, as they gazed higher and higher above her. After a moment of recollection and prayer, Marija shared with us her experience of Our Lady: Maria’s Apparition, June 20th, 2024: “Tonight, at the time of the apparition, when Gospa came she looked at us all. “I recommended to Gospa all of us, all of our intentions, everything we have in our hearts. In a special way all those who are sick in spirit and body. “I begged Gospa to intercede in front of her Son Jesus, for peace in the World. “Gospa extended her hands and prayed for a long time over us in her motherly language. She blessed us all and said “Same time, same place tomorrow…” and She went into heaven.” I feel that Our Lady is re-establishing her personal presence with us through these apparitions before the Anniversary. She wants us to realize how very personal her coming is, for each one of us! That is why she is appearing every evening, for the Novena, so that we will get used to her presence. She is our Mother and she wants us to feel her presence, know her presence, and take comfort in her presence! Let’s let her love us in this way! We need her so very much!! Anniversary Novena with Marija   June 20, 2024 Dear Family of Mary! Today is Day 5 of our Novena on Apparition Hill! Join us, live, at 10 PM tonight, June 20, for the prayer gathering with Maria! Here is a lovely prayer given to Jelena that we could pray to prepare for tonight: Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Given by Our Lady to Jelena Vasilj, 11/28/1983) O Immaculate Heart of Mary, overflowing with goodness, Show us your love for us. May the flame of your heart, Oh Mary, Descend upon all peoples. We love you immensely. Impress in our hearts a true love. May our hearts yearn for you. Oh Mary, sweet and humble of heart, Remember us when we sin. You know that all mankind are sinners. Through your most sacred and maternal heart, Cure us from every spiritual illness. Make us capable of looking at the beauty of your maternal heart, And that, thus, we may be converted to the flame of your heart. Amen The Novena Prayer on Apparition Hill last night was wonderful! Many, many people climbed the hill to participate! After praying the joyful and sorrowful mysteries, with songs and special prayers, it was time for Our Lady’s Apparition. Our Lady came, and Marija’s gaze was fixed upon her for a long time. Once in a while, Marija would speak to Our Lady – though we could not hear her at all. But we all could feel Our Lady’s presence, in the peace that surrounded us. Here is Marija’s summary of their conversation: June 19, 2024 – Maria Now we will ask our priests to bless us and our father bishop in a special way to bless us with a special blessing. People that are suffering, that are in the war – we ask the Queen of Peace to give us peace. Not only in our hearts, and in our families, but also in the whole world. Because she asked for this novena for peace in the world. And tonight we are going to pray in a special way for Ukraine, for Israel, and all countries where war is present. After the blessing from the Bishop and the priests Marija shared this: Tonight when Our Lady came she prayed again in her motherly language Aramaic. I recommended to Gospa all of us, all our intentions, everything that we have in our hearts, all of those who were mentioned in our prayers. In a special way I asked Gospa to intercede in front of her son Jesus for peace. Gospa prayed over us and blessed us all with her motherly blessing and she thanked us for every sacrifice we offered for her intentions, for this novena. And she said “I’ll see you tomorrow at the same time and same place” and left into heaven. Though Our Lady does not say too much to us, it is clear that she is doing a great deal silently in our hearts. We are all getting very used to these gatherings with her. We truly need our Mother, and she is truly with us! Anniversary Novena with Marija, Day 4   June 19, 2024 Dear Family of Mary! Today, June 19, 2024, we will again stream, live, the 43rd Anniversary Novena Prayer on Apparition Hill with Marija Pavlovic Lunetti. This is Day 4 of the Novena. Here is a description of what happened last night, June 18: Apparition Hill was filled again last night for the 3rd day of the Novena Prayer for the 43rd Anniversary of Our Lady’s coming to Medjugorje! It was warm and dark, but the people found their way to the area around the Statue of Our Lady, and all were seated somehow on the rugged stones. There was an atmosphere of joy and expectation on the Hill! Notably, there was a bishop in our midst last night, a bishop from Ukraine. He prayed so intensely the entire time, and led a decade of the Rosary. It was a great honor to be in his presence. (You can see him in the picture above, next to Marija during the apparition.) When Marija joined the crowd, she greeted them this way: “Our third day of the 9 day novena,! Welcome to all, not only you (here) but all you who are concerned in prayer!” Marija seemed to recognize that there were many people who could not be physically present on Apparition Hill, but were definitely spiritually present through the live stream of this event on Mary TV, or who were praying during this time from afar. Marija and the translators then led us in the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, along with many joyful songs of praise. The time flew by, and it was 11:30 pm and time for Our Lady’s visit. Our Lady appeared to Marija for a long while. Marija always looks to deeply touched by Our Lady’s presence. Finally, Our Lady departed. Then Marija described Our Lady’s visit to us: Tonight, at the time of apparition, Gospa thanked us and asked us to come in an even greater number. She prayed the whole time for peace in our hearts, in our families, and in the whole world. She blessed us all. She prayed in her motherly language. Today is the third day that Gospa prayed in the Aramaic language, that has never happened before. Gospa blessed us and went to heaven. Even though her message was serious, it seemed clear that Our Lady injected a deep joy into the hearts of us all. Her blessing is powerful! So powerful that everyone stayed for the Glorious Mysteries at the end of that long day! No one wanted to leave!! But finally, the night ended as the bishop’s blessed everyone and then people broke into extra prayers, and Marija said very joyfully, “We go down the mountain now singing and praying!” Truly, it was a night filled with grace.
