Do not be afraid!   August 29, 2023 The Passion of St. John the Baptist Dear Family of Mary! Today we honor St. John the Baptist, who was killed by Herod at at a banquet of the powerful and rich who surrounded him. St. John the Baptist is a key personage in the New Testament. He encountered Christ when yet in his mother’s womb. He was filled with the Holy Spirit from that moment. He became a hermit and a prophet, dwelling in the desert and calling the people to repentance because the Kingdom of God was at hand. John pointed to Jesus as the Christ, and grew less as Jesus grew great! He remained faithful during his imprisonment and died a martyr. And it was on the Feast Day of the Birth of St. John the Baptist that Our Lady first appeared in Medjugorje. She appeared far up the hill of Podbrdo, and beckoned to the children who saw her. They ran away. But she did not give up, and returned the next day, June 25, 1981, to begin her work through the 6 visionaries. Our Lady chose June 24 as the first day to appear, because she wanted to associate her work in Medjugorje to St. John’s prophetic role in Jesus’ day. She came to prepare the way for Jesus to return! Just as John prepared the way for Jesus’s first coming. And so we honor St. John the Baptist today. We need his prayers and intercession. We need his example of courage and trust in God. Preparing the way for Jesus always entails suffering and self-denial. St. John, please pray for us not to give in to fear. Pray for us to be ready to stand for the truth at all times, and to pray with Our Lady for peace! Here are five messages in which Our Lady has told us, “Do not be afraid…” She wants us to stand with her, to testify to Jesus, to love and care for souls, even when it is difficult. We can do it, just like St. John the Baptist! Our Lady is with us to help us. Let these messages strengthen our resolve, our courage and our love for God: September 25, 2001 “Dear children! Also today I call you to prayer, especially today when satan wants war and hatred. I call you anew, little children: pray and fast that God may give you peace. Witness peace to every heart and be carriers of peace in this world without peace. I am with you and intercede before God for each of you. And you do not be afraid because the one who prays is not afraid of evil and has no hatred in the heart… Thank you for having responded to my call.” September 2, 2007 “Dear children, In this time of God’s signs, do not be afraid because I am with you. The great love of God sends me to lead you to salvation. Give me your simple hearts, purified by fasting and prayer. Only in the simplicity of your hearts is your salvation. I will be with you and lead you. Thank you.” May 2, 2008 (Mirjana) “Dear children, By God’s will I am here with you in this place. I desire that you open your hearts to me and to accept me as a mother. With my love I will teach you simplicity of life and richness of mercy and I will lead you to my Son. The way to Him can be difficult and painful but do not be afraid, I will be with you. My hands will hold you to the very end, to eternal happiness; therefore do not be afraid to open yourselves to me. Thank you. Pray for priests. My Son gave them to you as a gift…” December 25, 2018 (Jakov) “Dear children, on this day of grace, I am calling you to love. Little children, God loves you immeasurably and that is why, little children, full of trust and without looking back and without fear, completely surrender your hearts to Him so that God may fill them with His love. Do not be afraid to believe in His love and mercy, because His love is stronger than every one of your weaknesses and fears. Therefore, my children, full of love in your hearts, trust in Jesus and say your ‘yes’ to Him, because He is the only way which leads you to the Eternal Father.” March 18, 2018 (Mirjana) “Dear children! I am with you in the name of the greatest Love, in the name of dear God, who has come close to you through my Son and has shown you real love. I desire to lead you on the way of God. I desire to teach you real love so that others may see it in you, that you may see it in others, that you may be a brother to them and that others may see a merciful brother in you. My children do not be afraid to open your hearts to me. With motherly love, I will show you what I expect of each of you, what I expect of my apostles. Set out with me. Thank you.” Dearest Mother Mary, we long to be courageous and faith-filled like St. John the Baptist. Please don’t let go of our hands. With you we can be brave. Prayer with the Heart!   August 28, 2023 St. Augustine Dear Family of Mary! “Dear children! In this time of grace, I am calling you to prayer with the heart. May your hearts, little children, be raised in prayer towards Heaven, so that your heart may feel the God of love who heals you and loves you with immeasurable love. That is why I am with you, to lead you on the way of conversion of heart. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (August 25, 2023) Today is the Feast of St. Augustine of Hippo. He is one of the great Doctors of the Church!! One of his most famous sentences is this:  “You move us to delight in praising You; for You have made us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” (from The Confessions). Indeed our hearts are restless, always restless until they find their home in the Heart of God. We know we are meant for God, but we feel so far away from Him. That desire that is unquenched causes us great anxiety. And so Our Lady’s words in the message for August 25, 2023 fill us with hope!! She understands and wants to help us find our way into the Heart of God which is Heaven!! Augustine wrote a letter to Proba, and in it he explains the kind of prayer with the heart that I think Our Lady is calling us to. It might be helpful to read St. Augustine’s explanation of prayer: “Why in our fear of not praying as we should, do we turn to so many things, to find what we should pray for? Why do we not say instead, in the words of the psalm: I have asked one thing from the Lord, this is what I will seek: to dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, to see the graciousness of the Lord, and to visit his temple? There, the days do not come and go in succession, and the beginning of one day does not mean the end of another; all days are one, simultaneously and without end, and the life lived out in these days has itself no end. So that we might obtain this life of happiness, he who is true life itself taught us to pray, not in many words as though speaking longer could gain us a hearing. After all, we pray to one who, as the Lord himself tells us, knows what we need before we ask for it. Why he should ask us to pray, when he knows what we need before we ask him, may perplex us if we do not realize that our Lord and God does not want to know what we want (for he cannot fail to know it), but wants us rather to exercise our desire through our prayers, so that we may be able to receive what he is preparing to give us. His gift is very great indeed, but our capacity is too small and limited to receive it. That is why we are told: Enlarge your hearts, do not bear the yoke with unbelievers. The deeper our faith, the stronger our hope, the greater our desire, the larger will be our capacity to receive that gift, which is very great indeed. No eye has seen it; it has no color. No ear has heard it; it has no sound. It has not entered man’s heart; man’s heart must enter into it. In this faith, hope and love we pray always with unwearied desire. However, at set times and seasons we also pray to God in words, so that by these signs we may instruct ourselves and mark the progress we have made in our desire, and spur ourselves on to deepen it. The more fervent the desire, the more worthy will be its fruit. When the Apostle tells us: Pray without ceasing, he means this: Desire unceasingly that life of happiness which is nothing if not eternal, and ask it of him who alone is able to give it.” (Augustine of Hippo (354-430): second reading from the Office of Readings for Sunday of Week 29, taken from the saint’s Letter to Proba) As Our Lady said, “May your hearts, little children, be raised in prayer towards Heaven…” It is our desire for God, our desire to be with Him forever, that will prepare our hearts to receive God in eternity! As we prepare for another message…   August 24, 2023 Dear Family of Mary! Let’s review the July 25, 2023 Message in preparation for tomorrow’s message!! Dear children! In this time of grace, in which the Most High sends me to you to love you and guide you on the way of conversion, offer your prayers and sacrifices for all those who are far away and have not come to know God’s love. You, little children, be witnesses of love and peace for all peaceless hearts. Thank you for having responded to my call. (July 25, 2023) We must pray for all those who are far away and have not come to know God’s love!! This is a work of mercy most needed in our day. Let’s pray this Litany to Our Lady, asking her to help us pray for all souls who do not yet know God’s love: Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary (We might add to the response to Our Lady: Pray for us and all those who have not come to know God’s love!) Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy on us. Christ hear us. Christ, graciously hear us. God the Father of heaven, Have mercy on us. A Litany to Our Lady   August 22, 2023 Dear Family of Mary! St. John Eudes fostered great devotion to the hearts of Jesus and Mary, and wrote many litanies to Our Lady. I love to read litanies slowly and let the salutations and petitions really penetrate my heart. We have so much to receive from Our Lady! Let’s not hurry in our prayer!! A Litany to Our Lady, by St. John Eudes Hail Mary, daughter of God the Father. Hail Mary, Mother of God the Son. Hail Mary, Spouse, of God the Holy Ghost. Hail Mary, Temple of the Most Blessed Trinity. Hail Mary, Pure Lily of the Trinity, One God. Hail Mary, Celestial Rose of the love of God. Hail Mary, Virgin pure and humble, of whom the King of Heaven willed to be born. Hail Mary, Virgin of virgins Hail Mary, Queen of Martyrs, whose soul a sword transfixed. The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary   August 22, 2023 Dear Family of Mary! This is the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary! She is the Queen of Heaven and Earth! We are her children, and so today we are called to celebrate and extol her with all our hearts full of love! She is not only the Queen, she is our Mother, and so our hearts are brimming over with astonishment, joy, and love!! Here is a message Our Lady gave to us in Medjugorje in which she told us, “I am your mother, the Queen of Peace!” Let’s be really proud of our Mother today!! Let’s celebrate her royal dignity!! But let’s especially receive her as the Queen of Peace, because this is the title she has revealed to us in Medjugorje. This is the work she has come to do in our day. To establish peace in us and in our world! July 25, 1988 “Dear children! Today I am calling you to a complete surrender to God. Everything you do and everything you possess give over to God so that He can take control in your life as the King of all that you possess. That way, through me, God can lead you into the depths of the spiritual life. Little children, do not be afraid, because I am with you even if you think there is no way out and that satan is in control. I am bringing peace to you. I am your mother, the Queen of Peace. I am blessing you with the blessings of joy so that for you God may be everything in your life… Thank you for having responded to my call.” Our Queen is blessing us with blessings of joy, so that we can embrace our God with joy and trust! She is a wonderful mother!! Here is a prayer written by Pope Pius XII to Our Queen, our Mother. We can pray it with our whole hearts. We want Our Lady to reign in our lives: Prayer to Mary, Queen of Heaven by Pope Pius XII From the depths of this vale of tears where sorrowing humanity makes weary progress, through the surges of this sea of ours, endlessly buffeted by the winds of passion, we raise our eyes to you, O most beloved Mother Mary, to be comforted by the contemplation of your glory and to hail you as Queen of heaven and earth, Queen of mankind. With legitimate filial pride, we wish to exalt your queenship and to recognize it as due to the sovereign excellence of your whole being, O dearest one, truly mother of him who is King by right, by inheritance and by conquest. Reign, O Mother and Queen, by showing us the path of holiness and by guiding and assisting us that we may never stray from it. In the heights of heaven you exercise your primacy over the choirs of angels who acclaim you as their sovereign, and over the legions of saints who delight in beholding your dazzling beauty. So, too, reign over the entire human race, above all by opening the path of faith to those who do not yet know your Divine Son. Children, I came here as the Queen of Peace   August 21, 2023 Dear Family of Mary! Tomorrow is the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary! Let’s listen to what our Queen said to us through Jakov on Christmas Day, 2016! December 25, 2016 – Jakov “Dear children! Today, on this day of grace, in a special way, I am calling you to pray for peace. Children, I came here as the Queen of Peace and how many times have I called you to pray for peace. But, children, your hearts are restless. Sin is preventing you from opening yourselves completely to grace and peace which God desires to give you. To live peace, my children, is to first have peace in your hearts and to be surrendered completely to God and to His will. Do not seek peace and joy in the things of this world, because this is all passing. Long for true mercy and peace which come only from God; and only in this way will your hearts be filled with true joy; and only in this way will you be able to become witnesses of peace in this peaceless world. I am your mother and intercede before my Son for each of you. Thank you for having responded to my call.” Thank you, Mother for coming to us as our Queen…our Queen of Peace! Because of the hardness of their hearts…   August 18, 2023 Dear Family of Mary! In today’s Gospel (Mt 19:3-12) Jesus tells the disbelieving Pharisees: “Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives…” The Pharisees constantly argued with Jesus over this or that matter of the Law of Moses. Their hearts were hard, defensive, and joyless, it would seem. And they did not accept Jesus because He spoke of mercy and hope to all the people. Jesus worked tirelessly to free the people from this way of seeing their relationship with God. And He was crucified by those who would not allow their hearts to be changed and healed. In this message, Our Lady speaks about hardness of heart as well. She too is concerned for those whose hearts are hard. And she is rejected by them as well. She told us: March 18, 2014 “Dear children! As a mother, I desire to be of help to you. With my motherly love, I desire to help you to open your heart and to put my Son in the first place in it. Through your love for my Son and through your prayer, I desire for God’s light to illuminate you and God’s mercy to fill you. In this way, I desire for the darkness, and the shadow of death which wants to encompass and mislead you, to be driven away. I desire for you to feel the joy of the blessing of God’s promise. You, children of man, you are God’s children – you are my children. Therefore, my children, set out on the ways on which my love leads you, teaches you humility and wisdom, and finds the way to the Heavenly Father. Pray with me for those who do not accept me and do not follow me – those who, because of hardness of their hearts, cannot feel the joy of humility, devotion, peace and love – the joy of my Son. Pray that your shepherds, with their blessed hands, may always give you the joy of God’s blessing. Thank you.” Mother Mary longs to bring her children into the joy of a loving relationship with the Lord. She has been sent to do exactly that! In Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Today, Jesus is here beside you…   August 17, 2023 Dear Family of Mary! December 25, 2020 (Jakov) “Dear children, also today Jesus is here beside you, even when you think that you are alone and that light does not exist in your life. He is here and has never left you or distanced Himself from you. The light of His birth illuminates this world and your life. His Heart is always open towards you, to receive your every pain, every trial, fear and need. His arms are extended towards you, that as a father, He may embrace you and tell you how important you are for Him, how much He loves you and cares for His children. Children, is your heart open towards Jesus? Have you completely surrendered your life into His hands? Have you accepted Jesus as your father, to whom you can always turn and in Him find consolation and everything you need to live true faith? That is why, my children, surrender your hearts to Jesus and permit Him to begin to rule your lives, because only in this way, will you accept the present and be able to face the world in which you live today. With Jesus, every fear, suffering and pain disappear, because your heart accepts His will and everything that comes into your life. Jesus will give you the faith to accept everything and nothing will distance you from Him — because He firmly holds you by the hand and does not permit for you to distance and lose yourselves in difficult moments — because He has become the Lord of your life.
