June 25, 1985 (Tuesday) “I invite you to call on everyone to pray the Rosary. With the rosary you shall overcome all the adversities which satan is trying to inflict on the Catholic Church. All you priests, pray the Rosary! Dedicate your time to the Rosary!” (This message Our Lady gave in response to the question of Marija Pavlovic: Our Lady, what do you wish to recommend to priests?)

Our Lady is very clear about this. It is the Rosary that will overcome all the adversities which satan is trying to inflict on the Catholic Church! She told us this in 1985. We find ourselves 34 years later seeing these adversities full grown! The Church is in crisis. But the antidote is the same. We must pray the Rosary, with faith, with conviction, with constancy and with hope, if we wish to stop Satan’s plan to destroy our Church and humanity.

Fr. Gabriel Amorth was a valiant exorcist priest in Italy. He helped to re-establish the sacramental practice of Exorcism in the Church. And he did thousands of Exorcisms, freeing God’s children from the bondage of the enemy. He said this about the Rosary in the battle against Satan:

“Mary is a creature like us, but, having been elevated to be the Mother of God, she has extraordinary power. Also, for this reason I ask the persons who assist me (at exorcisms) to pray the Rosary. It is the most advisable prayer in that context, prayed individually – not aloud and collectively, as it is often prayed in church before Mass – so as not to disturb the exorcism. I would add that the Rosary, being the prayer most appreciated by Our Lady, is an extremely powerful arm against the devil, and I warmly recommend it to anyone suffering from spiritual evils. This prayer has, in fact, a strong power of protection and liberation from evil. One day Sister Lucia, a seer of Fatima, revealed that God has conferred a power so great on the Rosary that there is no evil – personal, family or social – that cannot be defeated by its recitation with faith.” (Fr. Both Our Lady and Fr. Amorth are clear about this, the Rosary is the weapon we must employ in these days to defeat Satan and his plans of destruction. I do believe that is why Our Lady has constructed Medjugorje to be a center for the prayer of the Rosary. It is prayed climbing both hills, it is prayed in and around the church before and after evening Mass. Pilgrims pray it by the Risen Christ Statue, in fact by all the statues, in their hotels and pensions and everywhere else in between!! The Rosary fills the air in Medjugorje! And there is no place where you feel safer from the enemy than Medjugorje

Dearest Mother, thank you for the Rosary. Thank you for giving us this weapon against our enemy. We are very small and need your help. And you have given us the Rosary imbued with power from heaven! We want to help you to overcome the adversities that Satan has inflicted on our Church. We will pray the Rosary for your intentions, day and night. We are your little army. We love you.

Supplication to the Queen of the Holy Rosary:

“O Blessed Rosary of Mary, sweet chain which unites us to God, bond of love which unites us to the angels, tower of salvation against the assaults of Hell, safe port in our universal shipwreck, we will never abandon you. You will be our comfort in the hour of death: yours our final kiss as life ebbs away. And the last word from our lips will be your sweet name, O Queen of the Rosary of Pompei, O dearest Mother, O Refuge of Sinners, O Sovereign Consoler of the Afflicted. We commit ourselves to praying the Rosary for your intentions, dearest Mary, our Mother, as You enter this final battle with Satan, for the sake of souls. We will take up the Rosary as an obligation that we will fulfill with great joy! Together we will pray for Your Triumph over Satan, and for the coming of a New Time of Peace which has been given to us through You, Oh Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary!! Amen

In his Apostolic Letter “On the Rosary”, St. John Paul was able to bring out the beautiful significance of every facet of the Rosary. He spoke about the beads of the Rosary this way:

36. The traditional aid used for the recitation of the Rosary is the set of beads. At the most superficial level, the beads often become a simple counting mechanism to mark the succession of Hail Marys. Yet they can also take on a symbolism which can give added depth to contemplation.

Here the first thing to note is the way the beads converge upon the Crucifix, which both opens and closes the unfolding sequence of prayer. The life and prayer of believers is centered upon Christ. Everything begins from him, everything leads towards him, everything, through him, in the Holy Spirit, attains to the Father.

As a counting mechanism, marking the progress of the prayer, the beads evoke the unending path of contemplation and of Christian perfection. Blessed Bartolo Longo saw them also as a “chain” which links us to God. A chain, yes, but a sweet chain; for sweet indeed is the bond to God who is also our Father. A “filial” chain which puts us in tune with Mary, the “handmaid of the Lord” (Lk 1:38) and, most of all, with Christ himself, who, though he was in the form of God, made himself a “servant” out of love for us (Phil 2:7).

Our Lady recently referred to the Rosary prayer in this way:

July 25, 2019 “Dear children! My call for you is prayer. May prayer be a joy for you and a wreath which binds you to God. Little children, trials will come, and you will not be strong, and sin will reign but, if you are mine, you will win, because your refuge will be the Heart of my Son Jesus. Therefore, little children, return to prayer until prayer becomes life for you in the day and the night. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

This beautiful image of a wreath or a chain that binds us to God is comforting and practical. We do love our Rosaries, because with them we have spent hours and hours in contact with Jesus and Mary. With them we have been able to pray, to pour out our hearts to Mary, asking for intercession and help. With them, we have been able to receive the consolation of the Holy Spirit, knowing that our prayers are being answered. With them many a sleepless night has been filled with peace – spent in sweet converse with Jesus and Mary.

Dearest Mother, thank you for teaching us to pray. Thank you for giving us the Rosary. With this simple chain of love, we stay close to you and to Jesus, always knowing that we are not alone, and our prayers will be answered. Thank you, dearest Mother, for knowing exactly what we need to stay close to you.

When we pray the Rosary, we call upon Mary over and over again. “Hail Mary, full of grace….” “Holy Mary, Mother of God….” Her name permeates the prayer of the Rosary with her motherly presence. We may not realize it, but calling on Mary by name, over and over again, is powerful and necessary. When we pray Our Lady’s name, we send to her our love, our devotion, our trust and our commitment to her as our Mother, the Mother of our Savior, and the Woman who has been given the promise to defeat our enemy. Our hope really is in her, as the one chosen by the Father to give us Jesus. The more we say her name, the more we draw close to her. It is not unlike a toddler who says “Mama” over and over again, in contentment while rocking on their mother’s lap. We find our peace in her embrace.

St. John Paul II said something similar:

26. Meditation on the mysteries of Christ is proposed in the Rosary by means of a method designed to assist in their assimilation. It is a method based on repetition. This applies above all to the Hail Mary, repeated ten times in each mystery. If this repetition is considered superficially, there could be a temptation to see the Rosary as a dry and boring exercise. It is quite another thing, however, when the Rosary is thought of as an outpouring of that love which tirelessly returns to the person loved with expressions similar in their content but ever fresh in terms of the feeling pervading them. There is an outpouring of love between Mary and her children when we pray the Rosary. It is the love we most desperately need! It is the relationship we crave. We need our Mother. She shows us who we are and draws us unto God.

July 25, 1988 “Dear children! Today I am calling you to a complete surrender to God. Everything you do and everything you possess give over to God so that He can take control in your life as the King of all that you possess. That way, through me, God can lead you into the depths of the spiritual life. Little children, do not be afraid, because I am with you even if you think there is no way out and that satan is in control. I am bringing peace to you I am your mother, the Queen of Peace. I am blessing you with the blessings of joy so that for you God may be everything in your life… Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Dearest Mother, thank you for being our Mother. Thank you for giving us your name, that we might call out to you day and night, in our needs, in our hopes, in our fears, and in our love. You have given us the Rosary as the prayer that keeps us close to you, constantly. Thank you!

“14. Christ is the supreme Teacher, the revealer and the one revealed. It is not just a question of learning what he taught but of “learning him”. In this regard could we have any better teacher than Mary? From the divine standpoint, the Spirit is the interior teacher who leads us to the full truth of Christ (cf. Jn 14:26; 15:26; 16:13). But among creatures no one knows Christ better than Mary; no one can introduce us to a profound knowledge of his mystery better than his Mother.” (St. John Paul II – On the Rosary)

Except for Jesus, Himself, Our Lady is the best teacher of the life of a Christian, because she knows Jesus better than anyone else on earth. And so she comes to us in Medjugorje as our teacher, the one who knows our needs in these difficult days:

January 1, 1987 “Dear children! Today I wish to call on all of you that in the New Year you live the messages which I am giving you. Dear children, you know that for your sake I have remained a long time so I might teach you how to make progress on the way of holiness. Therefore, dear children, pray without ceasing and live the messages which I am giving you for I am doing it with great love toward God and toward you. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Our Lady is with us to teach us the way of Holiness, as only she can. And so, she has given us the 5 stones, those 5 categories that best sum up the spiritual life as she sees it. These stones (which include the prayer of the Rosary) are very effective, if lived with the heart, in changing us, healing us and taking the log out of our eyes!! This homily, given in Medjugorje on Sept. 13, 2019, is perfect for us at this point in our consecration:

“You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first;

then you will see clearlyto remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.” (Luke 6:42)

So, in this gospel today, Jesus is telling us, we’ve all got a big wooden plank in our eyes. So, it isn’t surprising that we can’t see very well. And you might think that this sounds very strange. Well, here in Medjugorje, Our Lady is telling us: “Put God in the first place in your life.” And once we start to do that, everything then starts to make sense. And we can start to see how we can put our life in order. But before we do that, each one of us have got this big wooden plank in our eyes. And we can’t see things clearly. And it’s not until we start to try to put God in the first place that things start to come into order.

So, just as I was coming here from Manchester here to Medjugorje, I stayed with a couple who put me up near the airport. And the lady and her husband had been to Medjugorje something like 15 years ago. And the lady didn’t want to come here. She sort-of half wanted to come, and then she was sort of pushed into it by another lady who sort of persuaded her to come along. And when the first week she was here, she went to see Father Jozo. And lots of things happened. She did lots of things; everything you’re doing. And then she said, “I want to get that book, a book which explains the five stones they had been talking about here.” And strangely enough, a friend with her who went to Father Jozo’s, picked up a book and said, “Oh, it’s all about the five stones.” And then she started reading about these five stones, about what Our Lady is asking us to do.

And then she came back to England. And then some strange things started happening. She heard a voice saying, “Go to mass every day.” She heard an audible voice just behind her which told her to go to mass. So, she started working out how she could go to mass every day. Then she started praying the rosary. And she started trying to pray the three, you know, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious mysteries. I’m sure she also decided then she was going to try and go to confession once a month. So, she was doing what Our Lady was asking of her.

And something similar happened to me. I came here about 1997, just a young fellow of 25. So, you can work out my age when you do your math. And just as I was leaving here that first time, I really felt the embrace of Our Lady; that She had really given me a great big hug. Also, she had given me the gift of praying the Rosary. Before I came here, the Rosary didn’t mean much to me. But she had given me that great gift of praying the Rosary. And also, she gave me a very simple lesson – that, when we think of the Annunciation, Mary comes before God, she answers the question of the Angel Gabriel, and she says, “Let it be done unto me according to your word.”

So, I felt that Our Lady gave me that gift, there’s some message where it says, “Don’t let your life be too complicated. Just hand yourself over to me, and I will sort everything out.” So that was the gift that I was given back there in 1997, to hand myself over to Our Lady, let her lead me; all the different problems, not to think them out, but to simply hand myself over to Our Lady. And particularly, by praying the Rosary, any problems that come along, hand myself over to Our Lady, start praying the Rosary to ask Our Lady to guide me.

And this is what Our Lady does. We have all got this big plank in our eyes; we don’t have to work out what it is, because we can’t see it. But we find, that if we do what Our Lady is asking of us, we will be able to put God in the first place in our lives. And then, without us even realizing it, we will start to begin to see clearly. We will be living in the Grace of God. And that’s what Our Lady is teaching us here: How to live in the Grace of God.

And so, we know, I’m sure you’ve heard about the five stones. About praying from the heart. About praying the Rosary. About starting to listen to Scripture; allowing the Scripture to take a place in our lives each day. Going to Holy Mass as often as we can. Going to Confession once a month. And fasting. So particularly on this day, Friday, we think about fasting. You may find it difficult to fast. But pray for the gift of fasting. And fasting helps us to get free of lots of addictions.

This lady that I told you about, when she did start to do these things, she started realizing she was watching a lot of television. She was watching a lot of soap operas. And then suddenly it came to her, all of these, a lot of these people in these soap operas, they’re committing sin. In this soap opera; in that one; in the other one. “Why am I watching all these people committing sin?” And so then, when she realized that, she stopped watching the soap operas.

So, it can be the same with us. When we start putting what Our Lady is asking us into practice, we will be enlightened about those things that we should be doing, and those things that we shouldn’t be doing.

We are so blessed to have such a Mother, who would come and stay with us this long, to teach us so patiently how to grow spiritually. We need to grow in these days. If we do not grow, we will remain blinded by the planks in our eyes and never help build up the Church or the Kingdom of Heaven.

Dearest Mother, may we live your 5 stones, so that we will become holy, and serve our brothers and sisters in the truth of Jesus and His Kingdom. Thank you for remaining with us this long to teach us the way.

On September 13, 2019 in the evening on Apparition Hill, the visionary Ivan met with his prayer group. At approximately 10:00 pm Our Lady appeared to Ivan. Here is Ivan’s description of that encounter with Our Lady:

Our Lady came to us joyful and happy and greeted all of us with her Motherly greeting….“Praised be Jesus, my dear children!”

Then for a while she prayed over us with extended hands – over all of us. She blessed all of us with her motherly blessing. She blessed everything that we have brought to be blessed. Then she turned to us with the words, to all of us, and said:

“Dear children, also today I desire in a special way to call you to pray, to pray for families – and holiness in the families. Dear children, pray! Pray! Pray! More than ever today we must pray for families, that the families are spiritually healed. Thank you, dear children, also today for having responded to my call.”

Then I [Ivan] recommended all of you, your needs, your intentions, your families…. Especially those of you who are sick here… She prayed for all of us. And she left in an illuminated sign of the Cross with the words, “Go in peace my dear children! Thank you!”

Our Lady is sounding the alarm! Families are in danger. We need to pray, pray, pray for families. For many, many years now she has given us an effective tool for healing our families, the Rosary. But most families today do not even know what a Rosary is! Here is what St. John Paul II has to say about the Rosary for the family:

41. As a prayer for peace, the Rosary is also, and always has been, a prayer of and for the family. At one time this prayer was particularly dear to Christian families, and it certainly brought them closer together. It is important not to lose this precious inheritance. We need to return to the practice of family prayer and prayer for families, continuing to use the Rosary…

The family that prays together stays together. The Holy Rosary, by age-old tradition, has shown itself particularly effective as a prayer which brings the family together. Individual family members, in turning their eyes towards Jesus, also regain the ability to look one another in the eye, to communicate, to show solidarity, to forgive one another and to see their covenant of love renewed in the Spirit of God.

Many of the problems facing contemporary families, especially in economically developed societies, result from their increasing difficulty in communicating. Families seldom manage to come together, and the rare occasions when they do are often taken up with watching television. To return to the recitation of the family Rosary means filling daily life with very different images, images of the mystery of salvation: the image of the Redeemer, the image of his most Blessed Mother. The family that recites the Rosary together reproduces something of the atmosphere of the household of Nazareth: its members place Jesus at the center, they share his joys and sorrows, they place their needs and their plans in his hands, they draw from him the hope and the strength to go on.

It seems to me that we need to first institute the prayer of the Rosary in our own families, and then begin to pray for all families to be healed through our prayer of the Rosary. The time is short, and the battle is intense. But I believe the Rosary can win the day, just as it did at Lepanto and Vienna. Against all odds, the Rosary can defeat the enemy and win back our families and then the Church. It is the family that holds the key to saving our Church and the world in these days. The family that prays the Rosary is a powerful weapon against evil!!

Dearest Mother, may we bring the power of the Rosary to our families, and may that power then radiate out to other families.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit! Receive our Consecration Prayer, O dearest Mother Mary!

When we pray the Rosary, we can encounter the Lord Jesus in His Humanity through which He experienced all the things that we must manage every day. He lived our life and so did His Mother!! They both know all the facets of our daily life. What a gift! The Father wants us to know that we are not alone on our journey to heaven. We are never alone, but have our brother, Jesus, and our Mother, Mary, with us each step of the way. The Rosary shows us this great gift as we pray it daily. Our Mother told us:

December 25, 2002“Dear children! This is a time of great graces, but also a time of great trials for all those who desire to follow the way of peace. Because of that, little children, again I call you to pray, pray, pray, not with words but with the heart. Live my messages and be converted. Be conscious of this gift that God has permitted me to be with you, especially today when in my arms I have little Jesus – the King of Peace. I desire to give you peace, and that you carry it in your hearts and give it to others until God’s peace begins to rule the world. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Our Lady presents her Son to us, in each mystery of the Rosary, so that we can learn from Him how to handle our lives. The mysteries are there to be the window into Jesus’ life on earth. When we meet the challenges of our day with Jesus and Mary, we meet them with peace. Divine peace! This is the gift of the Rosary. We are given the peace of a life lived with Jesus and Mary:

25…At the same time, it becomes natural to bring to this encounter with the sacred humanity of the Redeemer all the problems, anxieties, labors and endeavors which go to make up our lives. “Cast your burden on the Lord and he will sustain you” (Ps 55:23). To pray the Rosary is to hand over our burdens to the merciful hearts of Christ and his Mother. Twenty-five years later, thinking back over the difficulties which have also been part of my exercise of the Petrine ministry, I feel the need to say once more, as a warm invitation to everyone to experience it personally: the Rosary does indeed “mark the rhythm of human life”, bringing it into harmony with the “rhythm” of God’s own life, in the joyful communion of the Holy Trinity, our life’s destiny and deepest longing.

St. John Paul II understood how difficult it is in our day to grasp the truth about our human life. He affirmed that our lives are a mystery that can only be understood in the light of faith. Our Lady has often told us that it is only through prayer that we will discover the meaning of our lives. Here is one such message:

July 25, 1997 “Dear children! Today I invite you to respond to my call to prayer. I desire, dear children, that during this time you find a corner for personal prayer. I desire to lead you towards prayer with the heart. Only in this way will you comprehend that your life is empty without prayer. You will discover the meaning of your life when you discover God in prayer. That is why, little children, open the door of your heart and you will comprehend that prayer is joy without which you cannot live. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

St. John Paul II explains why the Rosary helps us to discover the meaning of our lives as we discover God:

25. In my testimony of 1978 mentioned above, where I described the Rosary as my favorite prayer, I used an idea to which I would like to return. I said then that “the simple prayer of the Rosary marks the rhythm of human life”.

In the light of what has been said so far on the mysteries of Christ, it is not difficult to go deeper into this anthropological significance of the Rosary, which is far deeper than may appear at first sight. Anyone who contemplates Christ through the various stages of his life cannot fail to perceive in him the truth about man. This is the great affirmation of the Second Vatican Council which I have so often discussed in my own teaching since the Encyclical Letter Redemptor Hominis: “it is only in the mystery of the Word made flesh that the mystery of man is seen in its true light”. The Rosary helps to open up the way to this light. Following in the path of Christ, in whom man’s path is “recapitulated”, revealed and redeemed, believers come face to face with the image of the true man. Contemplating Christ’s birth, they learn of the sanctity of life; seeing the household of Nazareth, they learn the original truth of the family according to God’s plan; listening to the Master in the mysteries of his public ministry, they find the light which leads them to enter the Kingdom of God; and following him on the way to Calvary, they learn the meaning of salvific suffering. Finally, contemplating Christ and his Blessed Mother in glory, they see the goal towards which each of us is called, if we allow ourselves to be healed and transformed by the Holy Spirit. It could be said that each mystery of the Rosary, carefully meditated, sheds light on the mystery of man.

In our current social and political upheaval, when everything we once held sacred is being challenged, and the meaning of our human lives has been defaced in so many ways, it is the Rosary that can heal and renew our understanding of the mystery of our humanity. Through the Rosary, we can again find our way to peace about who we are, how we were created, and what makes for a life of truth and joy!

Dearest Mother, may we pray the Rosary with you, reliving all the moments of Jesus’ life, in order to be taught again what it means to be human, what it means to live a life of joy with God.

Today we see the Rosary as “Mary’s way”! Through the prayer of the Rosary we are given a roadmap to heaven – Mary’s Way!! Our Lady speaks about her way in this message:

“…Just look, my children, how the Heavenly Father loves you with a great love, with understanding, forgiveness and justice – how He gives me, the Mother of your hearts, to you. And here I am among you to bless you with a motherly blessing, to call you to prayer, to fasting – to tell you to believe, to hope, to forgive, to pray for your shepherds, and above all to love without limits. My children, follow me. My way is the way of peace and love, the way of my Son. It is the way that leads to the triumph of my heart…” (June 2, 2019)

St. John Paul II realized that in the Rosary we have contained Our Lady’s way, her path to Heaven, her way to live with Jesus at the center of our lives. He explains:

24…The Rosary is at the service of this ideal [the fullness of Christ]; it offers the “secret” which leads easily to a profound and inward knowledge of Christ. We might call it Mary’s way. It is the way of the example of the Virgin of Nazareth, a woman of faith, of silence, of attentive listening. It is also the way of a Marian devotion inspired by knowledge of the inseparable bond between Christ and his Blessed Mother: the mysteries of Christ are also in some sense the mysteries of his Mother, even when they do not involve her directly, for she lives from him and through him. By making our own the words of the Angel Gabriel and Saint Elizabeth contained in the Hail Mary, we find ourselves constantly drawn to seek out afresh in Mary, in her arms and in her heart, the “blessed fruit of her womb” (cf Lk 1:42).

St. John Paul II lived Mary’s way his entire life. He allowed the Rosary to guide him into the heart of Our Lady, where he learned through, faith, silence, and attentive listening to know her Son. Mary’s way led him into the deepest service of the Church, as a teacher and spiritual guide, and as a Pontiff who shown with the light of holiness for all to see. It was always Our Lady’s way that kept him firm in faith and clear in purpose. We too must be held by Our Lady, in her arms and heart, so that we will find her Son through her way!!

Dearest Mother, may we discover your “way” as we pray the Rosary with you, learning each day more and more about your Son!

September 02, 2016 “Dear children, according to the will of my Son and my motherly love, I am coming to you, my children, but especially to those who have not yet come to know the love of my Son. I am coming to you who think of me and who invoke me. To you, I am giving my motherly love and I am carrying the blessing of my Son. Do you have pure and open hearts, and do you see the gifts, the signs of my presence and love? My children, in your earthly life, be led by my example. My life was pain, silence and immeasurable faith and trust in the Heavenly Father. Nothing is by chance: neither pain, nor joy, nor suffering, nor love. All of these are graces which my Son grants to you and which lead you to eternal life. Of you, my Son asks for love and prayer in Him. As a mother I will teach you: to love and to pray in Him means to pray in the silence of your soul and not only reciting with your lips; it is even the least beautiful gesture done in the name of my Son – it is patience, mercy, the acceptance of pain and sacrifice done for the sake of another. My children, my Son is looking at you. Pray that you also may see His face and that it may be revealed to you. My children, I am revealing to you the only and real truth. Pray that you may comprehend it and be able to spread love and hope; that you may be able to be apostles of my love. In a special way, my motherly heart loves the shepherds. Pray for their blessed hands. Thank you.”

St. John Paul II tells us that we can best contemplate and see the face of Christ through the guidance and intercession of Our Lady, His Mother. In the Rosary, we find a perfect way to receive such a grace. He explains:

The Rosary, “a compendium of the Gospel”

18. The only way to approach the contemplation of Christ’s face is by listening in the Spirit to the Father’s voice, since “no one knows the Son except the Father” (Mt 11:27). In the region of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus responded to Peter’s confession of faith by indicating the source of that clear intuition of his identity: “Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven” (Mt 16:17). What is needed, then, is a revelation from above. In order to receive that revelation, attentive listening is indispensable: “Only the experience of silence and prayer offers the proper setting for the growth and development of a true, faithful and consistent knowledge of that mystery”.

The Rosary is one of the traditional paths of Christian prayer directed to the contemplation of Christ’s face. Pope Paul VI described it in these words: “As a Gospel prayer, centered on the mystery of the redemptive Incarnation, the Rosary is a prayer with a clearly Christological orientation. Its most characteristic element, in fact, the litany- like succession of Hail Marys, becomes in itself an unceasing praise of Christ, who is the ultimate object both of the Angel’s announcement and of the greeting of the Mother of John the Baptist: ‘Blessed is the fruit of your womb’ (Lk 1:42). We would go further and say that the succession of Hail Marys constitutes the warp on which is woven the contemplation of the mysteries. The Jesus that each Hail Mary recalls is the same Jesus whom the succession of mysteries proposes to us now as the Son of God, now as the Son of the Virgin”.

St. John Paul II understood our need to see Christ’s face. We need to gaze upon Him with open hearts, and eyes of peace, so that He can infuse us with His saving graces. In the contemplation of the Mysteries of the Rosary, such a gaze is made possible.

Dearest Mother, lead us in prayer, that we might gaze upon our Savior with hearts of love and be healed.

“Dear children, my motherly heart is crying as I am looking at what my children are doing. Sins are multiplying, the purity of soul is all the less important; my Son is being forgotten – honored all the less; and my children are being persecuted.

That is why, you my children, apostles of my love, with soul and heart invoke the name of my Son. He will have the words of light for you. He manifests Himself to you, He breaks the bread with you and gives you the words of love so that you may transform them into merciful acts and, thus, be witnesses of truth. That is why, my children, do not be afraid. Permit my Son to be in you. He will make use of you to care for the wounded and to convert lost souls.

Therefore, my children, return to the prayer of the Rosary. Pray it with feelings of goodness, sacrifice and mercy. Pray, not only with words, but with merciful acts… Pray with love for all people. My Son, by His sacrifice, exalted love. Therefore, live with Him so that you may have strength and hope; that you may have the love which is life, and which leads to eternal life. Through God’s love, I am also with you, and will lead you with motherly love. Thank you…” (December 02, 2016)

We, the members of the Church, are called to be intercessors for the world. So many souls are in danger of losing hope, of walking away from God, of bringing harm to others and themselves, because they do not know God and they do not pray. Our Lady wants to teach us how to pray, especially the Rosary, in intercession for these souls in grave danger. She not only calls us to pray, but she prays with us in the Rosary!

St. John Paul II told us:

Praying to Christ with Mary

16. Jesus invited us to turn to God with insistence and the confidence that we will be heard: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Mt 7:7). The basis for this power of prayer is the goodness of the Father, but also the mediation of Christ himself (cf. 1Jn 2:1) and the working of the Holy Spirit who “intercedes for us” according to the will of God (cf. Rom 8:26-27). For “we do not know how to pray as we ought” (Rom 8:26), and at times we are not heard “because we ask wrongly” (cf. Jas 4:2-3).

In support of the prayer which Christ and the Spirit cause to rise in our hearts, Mary intervenes with her maternal intercession. “The prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary”. If Jesus, the one Mediator, is the Way of our prayer, then Mary, his purest and most transparent reflection, shows us the Way. “Beginning with Mary’s unique cooperation with the working of the Holy Spirit, the Churches developed their prayer to the Holy Mother of God, centering it on the person of Christ manifested in his mysteries”. At the wedding of Cana the Gospel clearly shows the power of Mary’s intercession as she makes known to Jesus the needs of others: “They have no wine” (Jn 2:3).

The Rosary is both meditation and supplication. Insistent prayer to the Mother of God is based on confidence that her maternal intercession can obtain all things from the heart of her Son. She is “all-powerful by grace”, to use the bold expression, which needs to be properly understood, of Blessed Bartolo Longo in his Supplication to Our Lady. This is a conviction which, beginning with the Gospel, has grown ever more firm in the experience of the Christian people. The supreme poet Dante expresses it marvelously in the lines sung by Saint Bernard: “Lady, thou art so great and so powerful, that whoever desires grace yet does not turn to thee, would have his desire fly without wings”. When in the Rosary we plead with Mary, the sanctuary of the Holy Spirit (cf. Lk 1:35), she intercedes for us before the Father who filled her with grace and before the Son born of her womb, praying with us and for us.

St. John Paul II understood this call to intercession. He lived it his entire life. Notice that the prayer her included is the very prayer we pray every day in this consecration!! And as an added joy, during the Daily Rosary on Sunday (9/8), we were given Blessed Bartolo Longo as our saint for the day!! He is really present to us as we pray this consecration, because he knows the power of the Rosary and longs for us to pray it at every opportunity!

Dearest Mother, lead us in prayer, that we might intercede for all in need of the amazing grace of God.
