First Week in Ordinary Time
Dear Family of Mary!
Mark 1:14-20
After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfillment. The Kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”
As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Then they left their nets and followed him. He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him. The Gospel of the Lord.
Jesus begins his public ministry in our Gospel for today. He calls to Simon and Andrew, and to James and John, “Come after me!” And they followed. Following is part of our Christian life. We follow Jesus through the Gospels we read each day. We follow Jesus through our Holy Mother Church, who shows us the path of Jesus. We follow because we do not know the way! But we are not alone, there is always help from the Holy Spirit, and Mother Mary!
We are blessed to be able to follow. It is a gift to be led, to be shown the way.
Our Lady has extended her Motherly hand to us, encouraging us to follow her in these days. We certainly need her guiding, because the world has become exceedingly stormy and dangerous. God’s ways have been rejected by many. That may be why the Father has sent Our Lady to us in Medjugorje. He knew we would need to be led safely through these times by Our Mother!
Here are some messages in which Mary, our Mother has called us to follow her:
May 2, 2005 “Dear children, I am with you that I can take you all to my Son. I wish to lead you all to salvation. Follow me, because in just this way you will find true peace and happiness. My little children come with me!”
April 2, 2006 “Dear Children, I am coming to you because, with my own example, I wish to show you the importance of prayer for those who have not come to know the love of God. You ask yourself if you are following me? My children, do you not recognize the signs of the times? Do you not speak of them? Come follow me. As a mother I call you. Thank you for having responded.”
June 25, 2008 “Dear children! Also today, with great joy in my heart, I call you to follow me and to listen to my messages. Be joyful carriers of peace and love in this peaceless world. I am with you and I bless you all with my Son Jesus, the King of Peace. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
July 25, 2010 “Dear children! Anew I call you to follow me with joy. I desire to lead all of you to my Son, your Savior. You are not aware that without Him you do not have joy and peace, nor a future or eternal life. Therefore, little children, make good use of this time of joyful prayer and surrender. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
November 25, 2025 “Dear children! In this time of grace, I am calling you to follow me. Pray for those who do not pray and do not want peace and joy, which only the Most High can give. May your souls be united in the joy of expectancy and your heart will be filled with peace. You will be convinced, little children, that all will be good and that God will bless all; because the good that you give will return to you, and joy will enfold your heart because you are with God and in God. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (With ecclesiastical approval)
As we begin our walk through Ordinary Time, may we be guided by Our Mother Mary, who has called us to follow Her. Safely in her care, we will walk each day in peace and in the love of God.
