The Holy Spirit Novena, Day 6
Dear Family of Mary!
In our Litany we say: Holy Spirit, inflame us with the flame of Thy love.
We are used to the image of a flame! It comes up in the Old and New Testament many times. Moses saw the Lord in a burning bush. Elijah called down the Lord to accept his sacrifice and a huge flame descended upon his offering and burned it all up! John the Baptist prophesied to the people that the one who would come after him would baptize them with the Holy Spirit and fire! And on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit appeared as tongues of fire resting on the disciples, empowering them to spread the Gospel (Acts 2:3-4). God is in the fire!
Fire can convey many things, light, heat, comfort, but also destruction and pain. Fire is a power that can rage out of control. We respect fire, because it is dangerous and powerful, and yet so needed. But for us, the Fire of God’s love is most to be desired! It is a Fire that purifies and changes us into the people we should be, the people of God’s love.
Our Lady called to us:
April 25, 2011 “Dear children! As nature gives the most beautiful colors of the year, I also call you to witness with your life and to help others to draw closer to my Immaculate Heart, so that the flame of love for the Most High may sprout in their hearts. I am with you and I unceasingly pray for you that your life may be a reflection of Heaven here on earth. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
Our Lady wants very much to ignite our hearts with the flame of love for God. That flame is really God’s love sprouting in us, a love that changes us and unites us to Him. We need to have that Flame constantly burning in our hearts, drawing us every closer to the Lord and to Our Lady! This is Pentecost. Come Holy Spirit!
Let us pray:
