Dear Family of Mary!
November 6, 1986 “Dear children! Today I wish to call you to pray daily for souls in purgatory. For every soul prayer and grace is necessary to reach God and the love of God. By doing this, dear children, you obtain new intercessors who will help you in life to realize that all the earthly things are not important for you, that only Heaven is that for which it is necessary to strive. Therefore, dear children, pray without ceasing that you may be able to help yourselves and the others to whom your prayers will bring joy. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
Yesterday we had a visit from the Souls in Purgatory during the Daily Rosary, reminding us to pray for them! Every day we pray for a saint to pick us as we pray the Rosary together on Mary TV. We have a box with slips of paper folded up in it, each with a Saint and an intention on it. And yesterday, we received the Souls in Purgatory! Here is what was written on the slip of paper:
Holy Souls in Purgatory
(celebrated November 2nd)
“For if he had not expected the fallen to rise again it would gave been superfluous and foolish to pray for the dead, whereas if he had in view the splendid recompense reserved for those who make a pious end, the thought was holy and devout. This was why he had this atonement sacrifice offered for the dead, so that they might be released from their sin.” (2 Maccabees 12:44-45
Intention: Pray for the Souls in Purgatory
It was a welcome reminder for Denis and me! In this month of November we should be praying for the Souls in Purgatory every day. But during the Rosary we also received several confirmations from some of you as we prayed
Teresa wrote: The Holy Souls in Purgatory! They kept me up last night! I was startle awake at 3 am and they came to mind, so I just started praying the Rosary.
And Karen wrote: Hi Cathy and Denis! I too was awake in the night and felt the urge to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory…so I prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy followed by the Rosary. My meditation for today was also to pray for the Holy Souls! Then the Souls chose us on Mary TV!! So there is NO DOUBT that our Mother wants us to pray for them. God bless you!!
And Patty wrote: I am praying with You now! At the beginning of the Rosary, I just mentioned to God that it would be nice to know how Rosemarie is doing. (She is my friend, an avowed atheist, who died yesterday. We were praying!!!) Is she in purgatory? Did she accept your offer of love and mercy? I thought, maybe St. Anthony will be the saint today…but then the Souls in Purgatory came to us!! Oh thank you, Jesus!
Finally, our shipmate, Elaine, wrote today about her devotion to the Holy Souls: Hi Cathy and Denis, I started to pray daily for the Poor souls when my 90 year old aunt asked who would take over from her to pray for the souls…It had been her calling since the age of 13. Thus since then I have tried each day to pray for the souls and now have my daily prayer for them. I use Susan Tassone’s daily reflection and suggestions on how to pray. She asks us to pray the “De Profundis” and “Te Deum”. Normally I say a decade of the St. Gertrude prayer but during this month dedicated to the Holy Souls I say a chaplet of St. Gertrude the Great. When I say the Rosary, I pray for the Holy Souls as well. I also pray for them at Holy Mass!
Well, this is very exciting! We had four confirmations about praying for the Souls!! Let’s not let this inspiration pass us by. We can try to begin small, possibly remembering the Holy Souls with each Rosary we pray, with a simple prayer like this prayer from St. Gertrude:
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
Thank you, dear Souls, for making yourselves known to us so that we can pray for you from now on!!
In Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!
