Come Holy Spirit!

St. Callistus I
Dear Family of Mary!
In the first reading at Mass today, St. Paul teaches us what fruits are of the Holy Spirit and what fruits are not:
“Brothers and sisters: If you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness, dissensions, factions, occasions of envy, drinking bouts, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.” (Gal 5: 18-25)
Our Lady has called us to pray to the Holy Spirit so that He will fill us with His gifts and fruits. Here is one message:
“Dear children! I rejoice with you and in this time of grace I call you to spiritual renewal. Pray, little children, that the Holy Spirit may come to dwell in you in fullness, so that you may be able to witness in joy to all those who are far from faith. Especially, little children, pray for the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that in the spirit of love, every day and in each situation, you may be closer to your fellow-man; and that in wisdom and love you may overcome every difficulty. I am with you and I intercede for each of you before Jesus. Thank you for having responded to my call.” (May 25, 2000)
It is important that we ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we can produce the fruits!! The world so needs people of love, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control… People who each day become closer to their fellow man. May we become those people, as we cling to Our Lady and the Holy Spirit. They will help us to bring the peace that is so needed in these days.
Let us pray:
Veni Creator Spiritus
Come, Holy Spirit, Creator, come
From your bright heavenly throne,
Come, take possession of our souls,
And make them all your own.
You who are called the Paraclete,
Best gift of God above,
The living spring, the living fire,
Sweet unction and true love.
You who are sev’nfold in your grace,
Finger of God’s right hand;
His promise, teaching little ones
To speak and understand.
O guide our minds with your blest light,
With love our hearts inflame;
And with your strength, which ne’er decays,
Confirm our mortal frame.
Far from us drive our deadly foe;
True peace unto us bring;
And through all perils lead us safe
Beneath your sacred wing.
Through you may we the Father know,
Through you th’eternal Son,
And you the Spirit of them both,
Thrice-blessed Three in One.
V. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
R. And kindle in them the fire of your love.
V. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created
R. And you will renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit
you have taught the hearts of your faithful.
In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.
In Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!
