St. John Chrysostom
Dear Family of Mary!
“…My Son is the life of the world. The more that you come to know Him-the more that you come close to Him-all the more you will love Him, because my Son is love.” (September 2, 2018)
Our Lady speaks so simply to us. She could probably spout off the deepest theology and philosophy, making our heads spin with her penetrating explanations of Jesus. She could. But she never would. She speaks to her little ones, her children. Her words are deep, very deep, but they are simple.
“My Son is the life of the world. The more that you come to know Him-the more that you come close to Him-all the more you will love Him, because my Son is love.”
The only response to Jesus is love. If we do not love Him, we have not come to know Him, we have not come close to Him.
The Baltimore Catechism said in Lesson First: on the End of Man, Question 6:
Q. Why did God make you?
A. God made me to know Him, to love, Him and to Serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in heaven.”
It always struck me that we first have to “know Him” and then we move on to “love Him.” Love is enkindled by knowing Jesus. Love comes to birth in our souls as we become acquainted with Jesus, learn about Him, understand His life and how He died for our sins. Love bursts into flames when we finally open our hearts to an encounter with Jesus, because He is present and waiting for us to meet Him in prayer. Through prayer we get closer and closer to Jesus. And getting closer only feeds our love, because we know Him better and better that way.
It gives me such peace to know that God made us to know Him. He wants us to know Him. He can’t wait to show us more and more of Himself, even in eternity. His heart is open to being known!
And that knowing will be the fuel of love! We will love Him to distraction, forever! Because He is love, He is love, He is love!
It also makes me so peaceful to know that God made us to serve Him. Serving the Lord is what completes our loving Him. Love is frustrated until the lover can express that love in action, through serving the beloved. So, we can see how much God wants us to love Him truly, because He allows us to serve Him, because He wants our love to be complete, to be expressed, to be given!
Well, Our Lady may speak simply, but it is certain, she speaks with truth and power. Her messages are designed to bring us to her Son, who is the life of the world!! Thank you dearest Mother, for helping us to come to know your Son!
In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
